Meeting Minutes

Present: Tor Cross, Gail Yokote, Caroline Bledsoe, Jan Dickens, Dave Osleger, Andy Jones, Jon Wagner, Liz Gibson, Tim Leamy

1. Charge and membership of CCFIT Educational Technology

We continued the discussion from last time.   Pete Siegel, VP of IET, see 4 areas for our group:

·         Focusing on emerging technologies and directions that have teaching implications.  Guiding these through implementation.

·         Promoting pedagogically effective practices

·         Focus on assessment – measuring and tracking impact on teaching and learning.

·         Looking towards the future for new technologies coming at us

We added a few more:

·         Providing feedback on campus educational technology tools

·         Communication channel back to IET, TRC, Library

·         Act as liaison between faculty and those who implement and support educational technology tools.

·         Act as eyes and ears to see what faculty are doing in their teaching

·         Since the directors of the support organizations attend they can make decisions

A lot of what we discuss ends up being projects for IET and the TRC.  Pete Siegel will take this info and work on a fist draft of a charge letter.

It is important to keep a critical mass of faculty on the committee.  Pete Siegel would like to see more faculty representation and to ensure we have official, formal Academic Senate representation.  He also suggests having co-chairs, one from the Academic Senate and one from the Academic Federation.  Caroline will ask the current faculty members of CCFIT if they are interested in joining our subcommittee.  We discussed some other possible members which Caroline will investigate.

We also discussed having undergraduate and graduate student representation.  Jon will try to find a grad student through the Professors for the Future program.  Caroline will talk to the ASUCD reps at CCFIT to find an undergrad student.

2. Faculty going digital

How do we plan for the long term digitization of the campus.  For now, the Faculty mentoring faculty program will work on items as they arise.  The TRC will be holding more mini-SITTs during the year that will cover some of these topics.

CCFIT is forming a group to look at campus system architectures.  We should try to do the same for digital repositories.

3.  PRS update

The TRC is trying to build a PRS user group with email and Smartsite.  There is a training session coming up on 12/8.

There currently isn’t a plan to do a real assessment of how the PRS systems worked.  Therefore, Jon will ask the PRS user group to pass back any feedback or assessment info they might have collected about PRS this quarter.  We can use that as a starting point.
