Introductions. We had a new member today - Neils Jensen from Applied Science. Neils is a member of CCFIT and will be joining our group also.

1. Instructional Technology Work Group report
We discussed the attached draft report a bit, but wanted to wait to have full committee here to discuss it. So we focused on working on the process for ensuring the report is seen by enough people on campus. The report is scheduled to go to the Regents in August.

The rough plan is to meet on Wed 3/21 form 10-12. Jon will invite Fred Wood, Liz will invite Pete Seigel, and Tor will invite Caroline Bledsoe. We should also try to get someone form the Academic Senate or Undergraduate Council. We will discuss the recommendations in the report and decide on a plan for campus review.

Once we have the feedback we will develop a response to the report.

A few points from the discussion we need to keep in mind:
-Trying to define "good teaching" will likely meet faculty resistance.
Especially if the definition seems technology centric. Therefore, we should focus on providing "effective teaching technologies and practices" which faculty can integrate into their teaching.
Essentially, we want to avoid saying "here's how you should teach" but rather "here are some tools that you might find useful."

-Our group focuses on the "educational technology" piece as part of a larger "information technology" planning structure. However, there really a similar planning structure for overall "instructional issues".
Our group should be overlapping both structures.
