Meeting Minutes
Present: Tor Cross, Gail Yokote, Frank Hirtz, Liz Gibson, Lori Lubin, Jan Dickens, Jon Wagner, Andy Jones, Patrick Newell, Dave Osleger, Jan Ilkiw, Tim Leamy
Guest: Jason Lorgan from the Bookstore
Since Patrick is joining us we did a round of introductions.
1. Class Resource Portal
We discussed the various processes faculty use to order class resources (books, reserves, etc). Jason passed out printouts of the webstie that the Bookstore uses. The faculty on the committee were surprised since they didn't know the web site existed and order their books with a fairly manual process in their departments. All the book info comes into the Bookstore via the web, but it's usually a staff member in the department entering the info. The Library also has a web based form which seems to be used in the same way.
The committee proposed a single website portal with all possible requests in regards to teaching a course - Bookstore, library, electronic reserves, clicker, TRC (assessment), classroom technology AV, readers, etc. The portal would save what was used last time. This would allow faculty to quickly request items if they don't want any changes. Plus it would ease transferring classes between faculty.
Departmental staff would also need to have access to the system.
The system would need to give faculty feedback about editions available (new and/or used) and rough idea of costs. Prices changes quarterly and most faculty aren't aware of the prices. If faculty saw the price info many would want to limits costs if possible.
The system should be developed to allow flexible implementations by departments. Some will have faculty do the legwork, others would have staff enter info. But the goal is to build the tools that allow the system to make the whole process much less time consuming.
A small workgroup will be formed to pursue this idea. The co-coordinators will be Liz and Gail. Also in the workgroup are Frank, Jon, Jason Lorgan, current departmental coordinator (name from Jason), and VetMed contact (name from Jan). The workgroup will:
-research if other universities have something like this
-identify what services should be included
-develop need analysis/requirements
-plan to meet a few times over Winter quarter and report back to the group at the beginning of Spring quarter.
Tor will announce this item at the full CCFIT committee and let anyone interested know they should contact Liz or Gail.
2. PRS Support
Much of the support has moved to the Bookstore:
- Student problems - clicker exchange
- Providing receivers to faculty

67 bought back
Winter
